Stupidity - The Worst Satanic Sin
-Anton Szandor LaVey, 1987.
I really do wish that stupidity was physically painful. It should feel like an electric shock that keeps hurting the stupid one till they pick up their common sense or quit doing the stupid thing they’re doing.
I’ve been working in the retail business for over 10 years. This helps you get a front-row view of the human herd. You meet all sorts of people working in this kind of work and you learn a few things about the psychology of the herd. You’re also exposed to the sheer stupidity of the herd and your patience really gets tested.
It’s amazing how little common sense exists among the herd. These are people that own homes, expensive cars, and overall, make more money than I currently do. These people vote and are given licenses to operate a motor vehicle. These people are allowed to breed and spread their stupidity further.
I’m talking about people who try to open the locked doors to a store even though the lights are off and no one is inside. There are people who’ll literally try to force open a locked door like they’re zombies trying to hunt down their prey. “Hmm, the door isn’t opening; maybe if I pull on it really hard, it’ll magically open? Also, I don’t really see the lights turned on.”
I’m also talking about people who can’t read a sign on a door or they can’t read a coupon or a promotion sale properly and they get mad because they didn’t get a discount. Learn to read, dude. It’ll save both of us the stress.
I once called out a customer one night for going into a fitting room that was clearly closed off. There was literally a large rack of clothes blocking the entrance and it had a sign that said “fitting room closed.” I wasn’t going to let that stupidity fly so I let him know what a moron he was (politely but firmly, of course).
The pandemic has exposed the stupidity of people even further. People still can’t even bother to read the signs posted on the front door of a business to learn what the customer capacity is and what the Covid protocol is, and they get mad at you when you make them wait their turn outside. Instead of getting mad, they can’t bother to read a damn sign on a door. How did these people buy cars or homes? You have to read contracts for these kinds of things. It takes way less time and effort to read a small sign on a door.
If it were up to me, I’d require that everyone in America should work a minimum of two years in the retail world right after high school. This would teach people more empathy, consideration, and more common sense and to be rid of a lot of their stupidity. The retail world would be a lot easier if this were to become a reality.
Sadly, this is not something that could happen with the human herd. But one can only dream, right?
Hail Satan!
